Medical Skills Weekends

The Medical Skills Weekend is a great hands-on opportunity for 1st and 2nd year medical students to experience rural Alberta medicine by:

  • allowing students to see what practice looks like in a rural community
  • offering exposure to sites students may like to consider practicing in once they have completed their medical degree
  • providing the chance to explore life in a rural Alberta community

How to participate in a skills weekend:

  • skills weekends occur in rural Alberta communities throughout the year
  • participation is possible through the Rural Medical Interest Groups at both the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary
  • priority is given to medical students who have not participated in a previous skills weekend
